Explore more about the physical and behavioral adaptations of these unique creatures. Students will meet live snakes that represent species that live in our own backyards.

Girl Scout Overnight

Calling all Brownies and Juniors! Join us for a spectacular overnight badge event! The evening begins with registration at 6:30PM, includes play time, a light snack, and fun activities to fulfill a Making Friends Try-it or Social Butterfly Badge. It’s lights out at 11:00PM – up for breakfast before heading home at 8:00AM.

J. Frank Hillyard Band Performance

The J. Frank Hillyard Stage Band will present a program on Sunday, Mar. 11 at 2 pm in the Museum’s Community Meeting Room.  The musical performance is part of the band’s Spring Tour.  All members of the Stage Band are 8th graders and in their third year of Band. Come enjoy the talents of our youthful musicians!

An Afternoon Of Gospel Music with Wallace Redd

AN AFTERNOON OF GOSPEL MUSIC with saxophonist, WALLACE REDD, a ninety-six year old jazz musician known locally for his group, “Wallace Redd and the Red Dots.” Redd will be performing with two singers/musicians in the Carpenter Community Meeting Room.

The program will include music and Redd’s stories as a WW II veteran and as a youth facing many challenges. In addition to his music, he continues to work full time at Snead Ford in Waynesboro where he was hired as a youth.

Wallace Redd is truly a Valley Treasure whose performances leave his audiences uplifted. You will not want to miss this program!!!

Free and open to the public. Donations welcome.

Celebrate Black History Month at Plains District Museum

CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH AT PLAINS DISTRICT MUSEUM
Sun., Feb. 18 at 2:00 pm
Carpenter Community Meeting Room

Rockingham County Public Schools Social Studies Director, Beau Dickenson, will share a presentation on Zenda, a local African American community of the late 1880’s Zenda was created by a group of freed slaves around 1880 in the Linville Creek District of Rockingham County.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

Great Community Give

The Great Community Give is on its way! This event is the first online, community-wide giving day event for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Community members will have the opportunity to support their favorite nonprofit organizations that serve our area every day on April 18, 2018 from 6:30 am to 8 pm. Throughout the day we will also draw the names of lucky donors who could help their nonprofit organization for additional prize money.
