Setting up a charitable fund can be a powerful and rewarding philanthropic endeavor and a way to protect your charitable donations and assets, as well as your charitable wishes. At The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County an individual, family, business, nonprofit organization or private foundation can open a fund.

Four Easy Steps to Establish a Fund

Starting a fund at The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County is easy. You can open a fund with as little as a $10,000 charitable donation or with a developed plan to reach $10,000.

1. Decide on the type of fund that works best for you.
2. Name your fund. (Individual or family name, name of a business, in memory of a loved one, etc.)
3. Complete a fund agreement. A fund agreement is something The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County will draft and review with you. Should you wish, you are also welcome to have your professional advisor review the agreement. Sample Fund Agreement.
4. Transfer the assets to be used to establish the fund. Giving Options.

For those establishing a fund as a memorial for a recently deceased loved one, please know that a fund may be established in a matter of an hour or so, deferring distribution and other decisions for a later time. Our staff will be pleased to help you establish a fund when the timing is best for you.
