Zombies Are Coming to the ‘Burg!
Try to stay alive as you walk or run through the corn fields and woods of Fear Forest.
Avoid the zombies lurking in the shadows — All to benefit those in the Central Shenandoah Valley who have sustained a brain injury.
Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley, Inc. is sponsoring the Fifth Annual ZOMBIE RUN FOR BRAINS to be held on Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 am.
Can you navigate your way through the grounds of Fear Forest without getting infected by the zombies that lurk along the way? Each participant will be given a flag football belt at the beginning of the race. Complete the 1.5 mile course with at least one flag left and you’ve survived! End the course without any flags left, you’ve been infected and will need to be “disinfected” before you can rejoin society. If you choose to participate without a belt, the zombies will not come after you and you will still have fun!
Walkers and runners of all levels are welcome! This is a fun-run and not a timed course.

Arctoberfest is an annual, family-friendly German beer and wine festival hosted by The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham (HR) in downtown Harrisonburg. This outdoor festival includes specialty beers and wines, food trucks, live music & dancing, family-friendly games, contests, prizes, and craft vendors. Our third annual Arctoberfest will take place on Saturday October 5, 2019 from 1-6 PM in the parking lot between Jess’ Lunch and Jack Brown’s restaurant.
This family friendly event will be held in the parking lot between Jack Brown’s and Taj of India and benefiting The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham. Arctoberfest promises to be a fun-filled day for people of all ages and abilities. We have live music by the The Judy Chops, The Hackens Boys, and Massanutten Brass Band, polka dancing lessons by the Civil War Era Dancers, a multi-sensory children’s play area, contests for adults and children, raffles, prizes, food trucks from Jack Brown’s and Jess’ Lunch, craft vendors and of course, plenty of German beer from Restless Moons Brewery, Brothers Craft Brewing, Pale Fire Brewing, and The Friendly Fermenter.

New items for sale include a variety of small appliances, lamps, linens, Rockford polisher, an aluminum truck took box, toy chest, lap desk, mirrors, toys, purses, and for the sportsmen—weights, and skis. A new collectible item is a collection of cloth feed bags. AND FOR THE DECORATOR, FALL AND HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS, along with the usual large collection of books, teapots, glassware, and kitchen utensils. Come early for the best selections.
Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley will hold their second pediatric and family support group meeting on Monday, September 23 from 4:30-6:30 pm to be held at the JMU Campbell Building, located at 755 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Harrisonburg. Families, Caregivers, and Children are all welcome. Speakers will provide information on local therapies and resources. Activities for children are offered for all ability levels. Brain injury is the most frequent cause of disability and death among children in the United States. Children aged 0-4 years and adolescents aged 15-19 years are more likely to sustain a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) than any other age group, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).[i]
Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley (BICSV) received an award to expand pediatric case management services for individuals affected by brain injury and their families and caregivers throughout Rockingham, Augusta, Page, Shenandoah, Highland, Bath and Rockbridge Counties, and the cities located within. The three-year grant from the Commonwealth Neurotruama Initiative (CNI) Trust Fund is administered in cooperation with the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). Please come out to support Breaking Free for one of their major fundraisers for the year! The annual Family Fun Day will offer pony rides, an EAGALA demonstration, raffles, food, music, JMU Color Guard, and crafts. Admission is free and food is available for sale.
Breaking Free provides EAGALA (Equine) services to Veterans, at-risk youth, and others in need of services.

Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley will hold their monthly support group meeting called Survivors With A Goal (SWAG) on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 at Valley Lanes in Harrisonburg (3106 S Main St. Harrisonburg, VA 22801). The group will learn about the benefits of exercise and will also get to bowl. A generous donation of shoe rentals by Valley Lanes will be provided for all support group members.
