What will the COVID-19 HR Community Response Fund support?
The fund will award grants, initially on a twice-monthly basis, to Harrisonburg and Rockingham County nonprofits whose operations are in support of vulnerable populations in our local area that have been stressed by the outbreak. The funds raised for the COVID-19 HR Community Response Fund initially supported local nonprofits assisting with access to food and access to safe shelter. Subsequent funding rounds expanded the funding opportunities to include nonprofit organizations providing other services.

Individuals may not apply for grant funding, but are encouraged to contact United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County (https://uwhr.org/need-help) to fill out an intake form describing the specific need. You can also access a list of resources to assist those critically impacted by the COVID-19 crisis at https://uwhr.org/COVID-19.
How do I know my donations will go to the organizations providing help to those in need?
The Community Foundation Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County, in coordination with United Way of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County, will work to deploy resources to nonprofits through an application process. Applications are reviewed quickly respond to local nonprofit needs. 100% of contributions made to the COVID-19 HR Community Response Fund will support the efforts of our local nonprofit organizations working to respond to those most affected by the pandemic. The Community Foundation is waiving administrative fees to manage this fund. Credit card fees charged by PayPal will still apply for online gifts.
