Starting a fund at The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County is easy. You can open a fund with as little as a $10,000 charitable donation or with a developed plan to reach $10,000.

  1. Decide on the type of fund that works best for you.
  2. Name your fund. (Individual or family name, name of a business, in memory of a loved one, etc.)
  3. Complete a fund agreement. A fund agreement is something The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County will draft and review with you. Should you wish, you are also welcome to have your professional advisor review the agreement. Sample Fund Agreement.
  4. Transfer the assets to be used to establish the fund. Giving Options.

We welcome the opportunity to assist with your charitable donations.

Staff members at The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County are available to meet with you in person, by phone or via email to help you select the appropriate fund type or address other questions you might have regarding a charitable donation. We look forward to assisting you in establishing the fund that best serves you, your family or your organization. Our staff can also help you learn more about the needs of the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County community by providing information on our Community Needs process.

We can help you establish a fund to honor someone important to you.

Dr. Cathy Slusher established the Leo Slusher Award in 2014 to honor the memory of her father.

For those establishing a fund as a memorial for a recently deceased loved one, please know that a fund may be established in a matter of an hour or so, deferring distribution and other decisions for a later time. Our staff will be pleased to help you establish a fund when the timing is best for you.

Our Fund Acceptance Policy is available upon request. Learn how The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County can help you make a charitable donation to establish a fund!
